Behavioral Counselor
Full-Time, Part-Time and Overnight Awake
Bairn Croft Residential Services (BCRS) provides residential services and treatment for dependent and semi-dependent male and female persons with developmental disabilities and special needs, who present with a wide range of functioning levels, emotional and behaviour challenges. BCRS provides comprehensive, innovative, and socially inclusive programming and services for children and adults of all ages.
BCRS strives to provide the highest quality of service and care in partnership with families, the community, social services, medical practitioners, mental health professionals, and educators in meeting the needs of children and adults with special needs, while ensuring we promote social inclusion, individual choice, independence and the rights of all children and adults in our care.
Education: Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training, B.A. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Criminology or other related field.
Credentials (certificates, licenses, memberships, courses, etc.): Child and Youth Care Worker (CCW/CYW) Diploma, Social Service Worker (SSW) Diploma, Social Service Worker - Gerontology Diploma, Community Support Worker (CSW) Diploma, Human Services Diploma,
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, First Aid Certificate
Experience: Experience an asset
Work Setting: working with Children, youth and/or adults in a residential setting.
Target Groups or Clients: Male, Female, Children, Adolescents, Adults, culturally diverse groups, Persons who are deaf/hard of hearing, Persons who are blind/visually impaired, Persons with intellectual disabilities, Persons with mental health disabilities, Persons with learning Disabilities
Specific Skills:
· Assess client's relevant skill strengths and development needs
· Resolve conflict situations
· Supervise activities of clients living in group homes
· Implement behaviour management programs
· Provide personal services support to persons with special needs
· Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients
· Develop service intervention logic models and outcome measures
· Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
· Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Work in a fast-paced environment, ability to work under high pressure, remain calm in crisis situations, physically demanding, ability to make sound judgement decisions during high stress events.
Transportation/Travel Information: Reliable vehicle, valid G driver’s license and insurance. Public transportation is available for some locations.
Work Location Information: Work in employer's/client's home, urban area, rural community, various locations
Security and Safety: Vulnerable sector security clearance, Child abuse registry check, Driving record check (abstract), Medical exam
